How much does a small business website cost in 2026?
A small business website can cost anything from a monthly builder plan you set up yourself to many thousands of dollars for a custom build. The price depends less on the design and more on who keeps working on the site after it goes live.
The four ways to get a website
1. Build it yourself on a website builder
You pay a monthly plan and do the work. It costs the least money and the most hours. Many owners get a homepage up and never get to service pages, local SEO or review requests.
2. Hire a freelancer for a one-time build
You pay once and get a site. When the build ends, so does the work. New pages, fixes and SEO cost extra.
3. Hire an agency for a custom build
A higher one-time fee, often with a separate SEO retainer on top. Good agencies are worth it; check what happens after launch.
4. Use a monthly website service
A setup fee to build, then a monthly fee that covers the ongoing work that brings in calls. This is how Light Pixel Designs works.
What changes the price
- Number of pages. Every service and every town you serve should have its own page.
- Writing. Someone has to write clear, local copy for each page.
- Forms and booking. Quote forms, online booking or order forms add work.
- Work after launch. Local SEO, new posts, review requests and fixes every month.
- Hosting and domain. Usually billed separately. Make sure the domain is in your name.
What we charge
$1,599 to design, write and build your website, then $599 a month for local SEO, four new posts, review requests, maintenance and a monthly report of your calls and leads. It runs month to month. Hosting isn’t included, and your domain stays in your name.
Five questions to ask before you pay anyone
- Whose name is the domain registered in?
- What happens to the site after launch, and who updates it?
- Will I get a page for each service and each town I serve?
- How will I know it’s working? Ask how calls and form leads are tracked.
- If I leave, what do I keep?
